Leighanne Dockerty has been in the early care and education field for nearly twenty years. She began as an assistant teacher moving to a teacher’s position followed by a director’s position. Then, after continuing her education, she was able to achieve the administrator’s position at Kids’ Safari Learning Center. Leighanne has been leading Kids’ Safari for just over nine years. She earned a BS in Public Administration and holds Associate’s degrees in Child Development and Early Child Education. In addition, Leighanne has achieved many awards through her work none more important than the Dean’s List for her academic achievement and Child Care Center of the Year for professional achievement in the development of a superior program for children. The success she has achieved is a result of her commitment, hard work and dedication to lifelong education and training. On a personal note, Leighanne is married with four children and three granddaughters. She grew up in Tennessee but has made Wisconsin her home for the past 21 years. She enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching them participate in their many activities. Leighanne also spends many hours outdoors including paddling and camping and really enjoys the fall weather.
Early child care and education is one of the fastest evolving professions in the world. With new knowledge and research stemming great social change that is encouraging greater responsibilities and heightened awareness for the education of our youngest children. Leighanne will share her insight and perspectives on the rewarding opportunities developing in this field and what attributes young teachers need to have to become successful teaching professionals.
