As Development Director for Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, Angela West Blank makes sure the organization has the support needed to effectively protect Wisconsin’s air, water, and land. She oversees a comprehensive fundraising plan and strategy, including: major donor cultivation, membership recruitment and retention, board and staff fundraising and training, direct mail appeals, e-fundraising, special events, and planned giving. Angela has been with the organization since 2007. Angela considers herself a conservation voter because she believes families have a right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and enjoy Wisconsin’s beautiful natural spaces. Angela grew up in western Illinois between the mighty Mississippi and Rock Rivers. Some of her best memories are of taking long walks with her father and talking about their hopes and dreams for making the world a better place. Occasionally, they’d spot a bald eagle along the way: a symbol, for Angela, of the importance and power of nature. Her parents were teachers and also taught her good conservation values, like turning off the lights when you left the room or turning off the tap and not wasting water. Angela graduated with distinction from DePaul University, Chicago with a MA in International Studies. She also attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign where she earned a BS in Marketing and Business Administration with honors. Angela has been a board member with Community Shares of Wisconsin, a workplace giving organization that addresses social, economic, and environmental problems through advocacy, research, and public education. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Middleton Public Library.

If you have a passion for wanting to make society better, a career in the non-profit sector may be a path to consider. As a fundraiser – or Development Director – for a Wisconsin group striving for environmental issues, Angela West Blank will share her insight on working in the nonprofit world.
