After graduating from Madison Memorial High School, city girl Mary Ann Buenzow received her Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. She was hired by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in 1984 and spent a year in Oconto Falls as a trainee before moving to Janesville to serve as the DNR forester covering Rock and Jefferson Counties for over 25 years. Two years ago, she became a forestry team leader, stationed first at Poynette, and now at Fitchburg. She now supervises forestry staff in five southern Wisconsin counties.

A career in Forestry can include a wide range of duties, from caring for trees in an urban forest, to battling wildfires or emerald ash borers, to marking timber to sustainably meet the demand for forest products. Foresters with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources may do any or all of these tasks, and more!
